Back in 2018, Bishop shared with my brother priests, our deacons, other Catholic leaders and myself, his desire to initiate a Diocesan Wide Capital Campaign. As I look back, there were many needs of the Church that weighed upon him: the need to support our Catholic schools with tuition assistance and building repairs, the strengthening of Faith Formation programs and the Catholic identity of our Catholic schools, support for Marriage Counseling services and our Homeless shelters, and finding the resources to educate our future priests and care for our senior priests.
Out of these and a number of other genuine needs, was born the one by One Campaign. Two phases were more or less completed before Covid struck. This January is the third phase and is St. Bernadette's opportunity to help address these needs we face as a Church of Green Bay along with some particular needs locally here at St. Bernadette's. Half of what we will raise will help us directly at St. Bernadette parish, and half will help the Catholic Church of Northeast Wisconsin. This third phase will run from January through June involving over 25 of the 156 parishes of the Church of Green Bay.
In the days to come, we will be learning more about the "Case Statement," i.e. the specific initiatives for which we are raising these monies. I hope that you take time to look it over carefully and pray upon it. The half of the case statement which addresses our needs, was finalized with the help of our parish leadership, especially members of the Pastoral council, Finance council, and the Building and Grounds committee. I'm very grateful for their input, wisdom and support.
As the Church of Northeast Wisconsin, we are striving to raise $70,000,000 and have already raised nearly $49,314,618 or even more by the time you read this. As a parish, we have been asked to raise (a good faith effort, it is not an assessment) $885,000. I'm pleased to say that, as of 5/9/22 we have raised $1,101,311 or 124% of our goal. I'm very very grateful.
Please learn as much as you can about the one by One Campaign and pray for its success. I sincerely hope each of us can generously support it when the time comes. As they say, "Not equal gifts, but equal sacrifice." And as always, let's keep praying that we will have not just the financial resources; but the Faith, Hope and Love necessary to live and share the Gospel, and to build up God's Kingdom here in Southeast Appleton and throughout Northeast Wisconsin!
In Christ,
Rev. Joseph E. Dorner
Pastor of St. Bernadette Catholic Church
